Let’s face it, the party always ends up in the kitchen. And, if design and remodel trends continue to focus on making the kitchen the center of attention, look for more splashes of color, space-saving creativity and the incorporation of traditionally non-kitchen furnishings. Yesterday’s utilitarian countertop appliances, gadgets and gizmos now are showing up on kitchen counters as design elements all their own. Hello to red mixing bowls, color-splashed blenders and futuristic lighting. Euro-sleek oven hoods add a contemporary mood while some disappear into recesses to save space. Appliance garages are big clutter dispersers while the new focus is on making the insides of pantries just as sleek as the zebra-wood exteriors. Non-traditional furniture is appearing in the kitchen as accents – witness armoire pantries and Murphy bedlike unfolding mini kitchens for small-space living and big-time space saving. This style party isn’t going to end soon.
