WINNER: GRAND AWARD / REMODELING MAGAZINE / “2008 Remodeling Design Awards”
This Stick Style Victorian in the Sherman Heights Historic District was originally built in 1898. At the time of its construction, the historic San Diego home was an elaborate middle class home, but years of neglect had faded the Victorian’s beauty.
Homeowners with a passion for preservation (and enthusiasm for color) lovingly restored the historic home
to its former glory — respecting traditions while bringing it thoughtfully into the 21st century. They hired
Arclinea San Diego to create a chef-quality, modern kitchen that would complement the traditional character of the house.
The result: An award-winning kitchen design, winner of the prestigious national “Grand Award” in Remodeling magazine’s “2008 Design Awards” and recognition for excellence in the category of “Old Home Renovation.” The selection of Arclinea’s “Papaya Giallo” cabinetry makes for a bold culinary-inspired design. The custom Artusi kitchen accommodates day-to-day domestic needs, where a passion for cooking and dining together are equally at home.
Professional-grade, and easy to clean stainless steel countertops and tall pantry in acid-etched glass, are paired with energy-efficient lighting profiles in anondised aluminum. A welded sink, integrated dish rack, and anti-drip countertop edges outfit the wet work zone.
On the peninsula, each cabinet is outfitted with unique storage solutions — ensuring ready access to tools and equipment. Thoroughly modern appliance technologies — like a Teppan Yaki griddle, downdraft ventilation, built-in European espresso machine, and combination steam & convection wall oven — satisfy the demands of the most passionate home chefs. A custom, integrated dining table, topped in CaesarStone, offers the perfect perch for seeing what’s cooking.
In the adjacent laundry area, Arclinea cabinets in “Rosso Paprika” offer a complementary dash of color and function. All together, this Victorian renovation offers a fresh take on modern living—fully utilizing all the functional and technical innovations of today while relishing the traditions of the past.
